The Masonic Arms dominated Finals Night of the CRF UK Limited Shrewsbury Premier Darts League. In the Championship final they were up against their nearest rivals the Admiral Duncan A who finished second in the league. The Masonic team had lost the previous three finals, but there wasn’t going to be a fourth slip up from the team from Belle Vue, claiming the title in emphatic style with a 5-0 win whitewash, which saw them only drop one leg. Victories for Dave Maddams, Jim Elsey, Paul Rowley, Dan Dean, who checked out on 148 and Matt Elsey who sealed the title beating Scott Dockerty.
In the Consolation final, last year’s Champions the Compasses Bayston Hill were up against the Red Castle who raced into a 2-0 lead with wins for Adam Jones and Kev Williams who checked out on 120 to win his game against Shane Knight. Teenager Matt Price then hit two 180’s in his game against Racheal Williams to take the first leg in 15 darts, But Racheal hit back to take the next two legs to win the Compasses first game. Sam Breakes restored the two game advantage for the Red Castle with victory over Compassses Captain Duncan Morris. Nik Bloor then Martin Morris fought back to bring the scores level with victories over Dan Morgan and Dave Price respectively. But the team from Harmer Hill were not to be denied as they took the first two doubles with Captain Dave Price hitting the winning double to win the cup.
In the men’s singles final Dave Maddams was up against former Welsh International captain John Roberts from the Crown Abbey Foregate. Earlier Maddams had beaten team mate Jim Elsey in the semis, while Roberts had beaten the Admiral Duncan’s Terry Nash. In the best of five leg final Roberts won the first leg in his usual clinical style, but Maddams, playing in his first full season of Premier Darts, hit back winning the next two legs. In the fourth leg Roberts dominated the scoring, but with an unlucky bounce out, left himself on 7, Maddams then just missed a 141 checkout hitting treble twenty, treble nineteen and placing his third dart just outside the double twelve. Roberts couldn’t checkout on his next throw, leaving Maddams to hit double 12 with his first dart to claim the Premier League Singles title 3-1.
Masonic’s Paul Rowley was awarded the player of the Year title for winning the individual league, he was also voted by his fellow players as their player of the year. John Mansell for the Compasses Ditherington won young player of the year.
